IknowUknow we pick the best songs to go on this blog, soooooo why not introduce the latest song from Wiz Khalifa. “Make it Hot” will be sure to put this young kid on the map. After leaving us with the hot single “Say Yeah“, Khalifa brings us back to that techno sound. “Make it Hot” features pounding synths, a catchy hook, hard hitting drums, and a powerful melody. I guarantee that after you listen to this song you will be pressing reply. Yea, he isn’t the best lyricist, but he gets the job done wit this song. Definitely will be checking for his album if his next single is as good as his first too. This song will be getting played in your local club shortly……..”I Make it hot, I make it hot, hot, hotttttt”…….IknowUknow rating 4/5….
(IknowUknow this article is a little late but I have been meaning to put it up…..here we goooo)
What could have been? After witnessing the collapse of the Lakers, or domination of the Celtics (however you look at it), I started to think what could have been for the city of Boston. Not only did they win the NBA Championship, but they also won last years MLB World Series. That’s 2 major sports titles in one year….But there’s more…Boston almost completed doing something that has never been done in sports before; by winning a 3rd national sports title in one year. Just last February the Patriots were trying to complete a perfect season by winning the Super Bowl (only to be beaten by Boston’s main rivals, NEW YORK). The Patriots had a chance to not only make football history, but City Championship history (lol i know that sounds funny)……AND if you travel back even further, Boston College was at one time ranked number 1 in NCAA football. NCAA football is almost a religion in the USA, and this title would have meant a lot to the city. By the way, I am not a Boston fan in any way (I do root for RANDY MOSS though), but I would have been happy to see something like this happen. My generation almost had a chance to see sports history made, but then again I think about what could have been. WHAT DO YOU THINK?
IknowUknow the blog has been getting a little slow, but hey we’re working on it. We decided to start off the new week with a new single, “Best Best”, from Missy. Although the song was debuted last month, I didn’t get a chance to hear it until today. I personally think this song will grow on people. The song is produced by Danja Handz, and you can tell that him and Missy have a good vibe. The song features a dark Transylvania synth, a weird echoing “Ewwwhhh” scream, catchy melody, and bouncing drums. The thing I like about this song (besides the beat) is the flow that Missy decided to pick for the verse. At first listen, people will think that the chorus sounds normal, but once she gets into the verse you hear the genius behind Missy with the repeating of words. She ends every sentence with a repeated word….“He the best (best), He the bomb (bomb)/ He cute (cute), He umm (Umm)/ He fly (fly), He fresh (fresh)/ He give me, good sex (sex)”….giving the song a bounce that only Missy can create…..IknowUknow rating 4/5………………….look for this song to climb the charts next month…….and PLEASE PEEP THE SWITCH UP AT 3:45…………….
IknowUknow Stephon Starbury is on the verge of being a forgotten player. I honestly think it’s a shame that I used to be a fan of this guy. At one point he was my favorite player in the league (don’t hate). There is no reason that he couldn’t have been the player, if not better, than AI (Allen Iverson). Marbury was just as fast, just as good handle of the ball, a better passer, one of the bigger & stronger guards in the league, and he could score. I remember when him and A.I. used to go back in fourth in games. BUT then I remembered one fact, AI wins games. I mean yea, you could argue the NETS were injured when Marbury was there, while they were healthy when Jason Kidd (the greatest) was there. BUT lets not forget that the Suns were a playoff team before Marbury went there. Is he really the team killer? Hey, numbers don’t lie and his winning percentage is hurting. Was this guy supposed to be the savoir of the Knicks…..Good Luck…..”OOhh I like that”
Anyway, this interview is hilarious. Marbury explains why Zach Randoph was a great addition to the Knicks because he can shoot the COLLEGE three. He talks about how he going going to average 12-13 dimes and 2-3 assists (yea they are the same thing). He forgets to turn off his cell phone during the interview. He even talks about “Shiny Stuff” (the NBA Trophy) and how he doesnt shoot for it but he shoots to win. AND to top things off he even manages to call his wife his “Better Hoe”, yup his “Better Hoe”. Marbury you tried, but Come on, all that money and you can’t hire a media trainer…..All in all, Marbury keep trying and maybe you can win some fans back…”OOhh I like that“…What do YOU think?
IknowUknow everything is uptempo on the radio today minus Keisha Cole’s new song, so why would John Legend drop something slow? Well since synthy club tracks are dominating the radio, John Legend decided to apply his style to a club track; Oh and he brought Andre 3000 . The song is entitled “Green Light“ and it’s definitely not the John Legend style track we are used to hearing. Well change is good and this song definitely bumps. I don’t know how most John Legend fans feel about this track but he definitely did a good job. Andre 300 did the usual, and killed his verse This guy (Dre) can disappear for months and come back and still rip a song. The bouncy drums and spacey synths make this track a true feel good song. I think John did a good job straying away from his usual sound…………What about YOU? IknowUknowrating……4.5/5
Before everybody starts complaining about how T.I. isn’t the king of the south, I just want to say “Who Cares“. IknowUknow Luda could be considered, Wayne, Jeezy, and I cant forget the vets Bun B, Big Boi, Dre 3k, Scarface. We could be here all day arguing this (in no way is T.I. the King of the south BTW). I’m just here to say that the self proclaimed King of the South found a record with that bounce, “Swing Your Rag“. Yea “No Matter What” was dope, but as far a that single he NEEDED, NOPE. This track showcases that style that T.I. is known for. Once again Swizz has come correct with the beat…..I swear this is the only dude that could pull off these types of beats. And if you playing this song through weak computer speakers, you can slap yourself now because you’ll be missing out on the bounce of the song…….With three good singles so far, “Papers Trails” is looking good. Look for this song to get heavy play in the club……IknowUknow rating 3.5/5…….4/5…….
IknowUknow being down 3-2 in a seven game series is not good (especially when you could have won game 4). They say the likelihood of coming back after being down 3-1 is impossible (see SportCenter). Commentators keep stating that every team that has been down 3-1 in a series has gone on to lose that series….yada, yada, yada. Well believe it or not, the Lakers still have a chance of winning the championship. As odd as it may seem, the Lakers can still win 2 in a row. That record of 29 or 28 teams winning after leading a series 3-1 means nothing. It only takes one team to change that record and the Lakers can be that team. If I were Phil Jackson I would have my team watch and study films of the miraculous comeback of the 2004 Red Sox on the New York Yankees. Yea baseball is a different sport, but the drive to win within athletes is the same. Do you think the Red Sox were listening to everybody when commentators said they had no chance of winning after being down 3-0. All it takes is one game at a time, and there are two more to go, besides this is the best way to win a championship; when your backs against the wall, your the underdog, and no one thinks its possible. To Phil, get those tapes and show your team what a comeback truly is. I believe a comeback is possible, what do you think?
Letting everyone know that my reviews for the Lil Wayne and N.E.R.D. album will be delayed due to the releases of numerous Cd’s. Young Jeezy (crazy artist) released a mixtape “The Prime Minister“, to set up for the release of his new album. This mixtape sounds crazy, and I will post some tracks for you. Asher Roth dropped his new mixtape “The Greenhouse Effect” and you know I have been talking about him for awhile. Haven’t had a chance to hear anything off of this besides the songs posted on his myspace page (and they have been good). I also had the chance to buy an alternative album, “We Started Nothing“ from this group calledThe Ting Tings. They are from England and their music is energetic. Hopefully I will get a chance to review these ablums sometime next week, but you should all definitely check them out.
IknowUknow wants to announce that last Tuesday marked a great day in music. Not only did we get to hear an unbelievable album from Lil Wayne, but we also got to hear a dope album album from N.E.R.D.
I have a question. Why is everyone complaining about the state of hip hop when one of the most creative albums within the past couple of years has just dropped? This album is proof that creativity still sells (423,000 copies first day) within a industry hurting from sales. I don’t understand how people cannot respect a artist who strives to be the best lyricist in a genre were lyrics are barely being mentioned in the mainstream. While a lot of artist’s are putting out the regular soft song about a girl, or drug tirade song; Lil Wayne takes a chance and drops a song that normally would never get steady radio play. “A Millie” doesn’t even fit the criteria of a radio play list song and it still managed to peak at 29 on the BillBoard Hot 100 . The song has No Chorus, just straight rapping the whole way through; basically a freestyle (should’ve kept Corey Gunz on there BTW). Yea, maybe some of the song doesn’t make any sense, but people are forgetting the fact the he is stressing lyrics the WHOLE song. Who else could or would do that? I don’t any artist would have this song for a single or could’ve gotten away with this (check all the remixes, only ones worth it are Corey Gunz, Lil Mama, and Chris Brown…yea Chris Brown). All you so called Hip Hop purist should support the effort the effort that Wayne puts into his music.
All in all I just want to say that it feels good to see that creativity is back in hip hop; and it’s good to see people supporting it. Maybe this album will inspire other artist to step up their music game. This is also a message to the labels; SPEND TIME, MONEY, AND BELIEVE in quality artists and you too can reap the benfits….and please check out the N.E.R.D. (GOOD FUCKIN MUSIC)……….some time next week I’m going to review both albums……
IknowUknow it’s Finally Friday! Driving to work this week made me spend even more on the expensive ass gas in New Jersey because i had to use the AC. It was sooooo hot on the East Coast. I think temperatures reached 150 degrees in some parts….So to celebrate the hot week over here, I am recommending the Miami Vice, because it damn near felt like Miami. Enjoy this drink and love the weekend. Go out and do something fun. I might head down to Philly if my friends flight from Florida arrives on time. Let me know what you do.
